Examples of Super Relm lathes here

Sad example of an early Relmac. Note the bearing clamp screws on the rear of the headstock (contrast with the later ones below). This one was never setup for screwcutting nor backgeared as can be seen by the lack of screw holes for the screw-cutting data on the front of the headstock. The V-pulleys are not original, nor is the cross-slide handle. Was rescued from a scrapyard and sold on eBay for £10 (Nov 2009)

A much nicer example of an early Relmac, complete with stand and driptray (which may not be original). The whole carriage/tool holder arrangement appears to be non-original and cobbled together, and the double slotted banjo isn't original either. Sold on eBay for a bargain £48 (Dec 2009)

Another clean but hacked-up example of an early Relmac, missing all its pulleys.

An interesting and heavily modified early Relmac, with the addition of an outboard leadscrew, dogclutch of a similar type to a Portass S and a single screw fixed leadnut similar to a Bond Maximus, which suggests this conversion may have been done in the 1930s. The spindle nose diameter/thread has been changed to 1.5"x8tpi (I'm guessing by a threaded sleeve over the original spindle) to take Boxford accessories.

An example of later Relmac similar to mine, but with a different, and probably custom, means of mounting the swiveling cross-slide and modified leadscrew handwheel. Sold on eBay for £62 (Sep 2009)

Another nice example of a later Relmac, mostly all original, although there is something odd about the lack of a swivel on the carriage for the cross-slide. Advertised on eBay for an unlikely £150 starting price with a full set of changewheels and, apparently, a copy of the original manual but failed to sell. The owner sadly refused to enter into discussions about a copy of the manual which is probably sadly now gone (2008)

Another nice example of a later Relmac, currently in the Orkneys, owned for 7 years by the current owner. An interesting non-original arrangement for controlling the dog clutch plus some other modifications, the most obvious being the V-belt pulleys and the hand-levers on cross-slide lock and tailstock. The purpose of the non-original lever by the 'R' of Relmac is not yet known.

Sadly in Oct 2012 I had a serious accident which has left me unable to use my workshop and now it is all in storage. I have left these pages up for historical interest, but I no longer have any involvement.
