Evolution

Very soon I had acquired the two SuperRelms pictured below. The SuperRelm is very similar to the Relmac, but has a longer bed and has lost the swiveling cross-slide for a more conventional top and cross-slide arrangement. The leadscrew is now on the front of the bed, driving the apron through two large brass halfnuts. The apron handwheel drives against a rack. The headstock is similar, with the same 1.25" x 12tpi thread. However the changewheels are now 5/8" thick and 16DP against the 3/8" and 20DP of the Relmac. They retain the same 1" bore but are now keyed rather than pin driven.

The top picture is the one that has now replaced the Relmac as my primary lathe. Its in really good condition considering, although the cross and top-slide nuts need replacing. Given these are 3/8" x 8tpi left hand square threads this might be tricky.

Although these lathes are both SuperRelms and look similar no two bits are quite the same and indeed the aprons and their sub-assemblies are not interchangable. After examining some other SuperRelms I have documented the differences on the Evolution page.

You can see example of some other SuperRelms here.

Sadly in Oct 2012 I had a serious accident which has left me unable to use my workshop and now it is all in storage. I have left these pages up for historical interest, but I no longer have any involvement.
